San Tan Valley resident wins new air-conditioning system from Chas Roberts

Chas Roberts, a local family-owned air-conditioning, heating and plumbing provider, recently announced the recipients of the 11th Annual Cool Play Giveaway. The business donated new A/C systems, including installation, to three winners — the Fournier family in Surprise, Beverly Matamoros of Phoenix and Jennifer Moyer of San Tan Valley.
Ms. Moyer suffered a stroke at the age of 7, has endured three brain surgeries and was left paralyzed on her left side. She learned to live with only the use of the right side of her body, according to a release.
In 2015 she was diagnosed with autoimmune encephalitis. She’s undergone numerous surgeries and continues to live daily with chronic pain. Ms. Moyer lives in a house in San Tan Valley and is not able to work. Insurance covers most expenses, but it does not cover a new A/C unit. Her A/C unit had been acting up, and she was fearful it would go out, leaving her without A/C, according to the release.
The Cool Play Giveaway was initially started by Sissie Roberts Shank, Chas Roberts president and CEO, as a way to help local families or organizations that may be undergoing a hardship and are in desperate need of a new A/C system, according to the release.
In previous years, the contest awarded two people or nonprofits a new A/C system but due to the generosity of a new partner, Lennox, offering up a third unit, and the touching stories that were submitted, they awarded three new systems this year, the release states.
“So many people are struggling financially right now and this is just one small way we can give back to those in our community,” Ms. Shank said in the release. “A/C units are critical in Arizona, especially this time of year, so if we can help a few families feel more comfortable in their home, we are honored to be able to do so.”
In conjunction with vendors Lennox, Carrier and Goodman, which donate the systems, and Smiley Crane, which provides the crane service for roof installation, Chas Roberts is happy to be able to coordinate the program and provide installation for these deserving winners, the release states.
