Robert (Bob) Martin Thompson

Robert passed away peacefully in Sun City West, AZ, on May 24, 2020, from complications from multiple myeloma, at the age of 76.

He was preceded in death by his niece, Colleen Murphy, in March of 2020.

He is survived by the love of his life, Raquel; their children: Carina (Mark) Herman, Crissy (Matt) Duncan, Bob (Jaime) Thompson, Mara (Rodrigo) Brasil, Rana (John) Freeze, and Mickey Thompson; siblings: Ned Thompson, Kathleen (Jerry) Murphy, Tricia Flor, Max (JoAnn) Thompson, Tim (Sandy) Thompson, and Rebecca (Mike) Murdock; grandchildren: Joey, Leylen, Toren, Claire, Lorenzo and Matteo; and 19 nieces and nephews.

Born in Newcastle, WY on November 23, 1943, Bob moved to St. Paul, MN in 1955, graduating from Lakeville High School in 1962.

He received an appointment from the Hon. Hubert H. Humphrey to the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY, graduating class of 1966. He was commissioned in the Army Field Artillery branch, serving tours of duty in Germany and Vietnam, attaining the rank of Captain. Upon returning from Vietnam, Bob went back to West Point and worked in the admissions office.

He married Raquel in October of 1970. In 1974 he earned an MBA from Harvard Business School in Cambridge, MA. He then worked as a commercial real estate developer and ended up in Denver, CO, where the family lived for 35 years. Bob and Raquel moved to Sun City West, AZ in 2014.

He enjoyed singing bass in barbershop quartets, with the Desert Aires Barbershop Chorus in the Sun Cities and the Phoenix Barbershop chorus. He was named Barbershopper of the Year in 2018.
