Nov. 3 election may be canceled for J.O. Combs Unified School District board

Posted

Canceling the Nov. 3 elections for various school and special taxing districts — including the J.O. Combs Unified School District — and appointing all who filed to be candidates is to be considered at the Sept. 9 meeting of the Pinal County Board of Supervisors.

The meeting begins at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Pinal County Administrative Complex’s Board of Supervisors Hearing Room, 135 N. Pinal St. in Florence.

“(I)f the total of the number of persons who file a nomination petition for a candidate and the number of persons who file a nomination paper for a write-in candidate is less than or equal to the number of positions to be filled at the election for which the nomination petition or nomination paper is filed, the county board of supervisors may cancel the election and appoint the person or persons who filed the nomination petition or nomination paper to fill the position for the term of office for which the candidate was nominated,” according to a resolution the supervisors are to vote on.

Approval of the resolution will result in a cost savings to the school districts and special taxing districts where elections are canceled with their candidates being deemed elected, according to the agenda.

Local school district candidates to be appointed for J.O. Combs Unified School District 44 are: Lisa Carr, for a two-year term; and Bob D’Elena, Shelly Hargis and Chad McLeod, all for four-year terms.
