The Shemer Art Center has selected an Arizona-based mixed-media artist, Beth Ames Swartz, whose career spans nearly 60 years, as the 2020 Shemer Honors honoree.

Ms. Swartz will be honored by the Shemer Art Center during its 2020 Shemer Honors event to be held virtually starting at 6 p.m., Friday, Nov. 13, according to a press release.

Shemer Honors event virtual attendees will have the opportunity to learn about Ms. Swartz and the numerous art series she has created during her career, plus receive a personal tour of her new works on display.

The honoree will also introduce her works of art in an exhibition at the Shemer Art Center, the release said, to be displayed to the public, Nov. 4 through February 18, 2021.

“The Shemer Art Center is pleased to recognize Beth Ames Swartz on the fifth anniversary of this event, which each year recognizes and shares the success stories of long-time artists in our state whose works and actions have, and continue to inspire other Arizona artists,” said Shonna James, president and executive director of the Shemer Art Center, in a prepared statement.

“We look forward to sharing Beth’s journey and her works of art, and sharing the impact her art and advocacy of Arizona-based artists has made in the state.”

In recognition of the event’s fifth anniversary, the program will also include the Shemer Art Center’s first four honorees, Angela Tassoni, Jim Waid, Merrill Mahaffey and Bill Nebeker, the release said of the artists who have achieved success in their careers and made a significant impact in the state.
