Cox Communications working to restore connections after arson

Posted

Cox Communications is working to restore connections to thousands of customers after  someone set fire to a power and telecom pole  in Phoenix Wednesday evening.

The disruption to television, phone and internet services across a swath of the Valley on Sept. 23 was caused after someone intentionally lit a power pole on fire and destroyed several thousand fiber connections.

Those connections power Cox's network in the region and deliver services to homes and businesses.

Andrea Katsenes Pappas, director of media and public relations for Cox, said the company had restored many connections by Thursday afternoon.

The company said about 4:30 on Thursday that all services should be restored with a few troublshooting spots remaining.

Here is the company's statement:

Yesterday/Wed evening, due to arson, an APS pole in Phoenix that housed Cox network was set on fire and burned several thousand fiber connections, which feed customer services.

The Cox team was immediately deployed to the site and has been working all night and today to repair, and will be bring back services to impacted customers throughout the day.

Our employees have been on site and are working as quickly as possible to restore these damaged services.  We thank our customers for their patience.

Phoenix Police are encouraging anyone with information about who set the fire to call the police at 602-262-6141 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS or 480-TESTIGO for Spanish speakers.
