Meals of Joy, a Litchfield Park-nonprofit that delivers fresh weekday lunches to seniors across the West Valley, including Peoria, will hold its first-ever drive-thru event Saturday, Nov. 14, at First Baptist Church of Garden Lakes, 2517 N. 107th Ave., Avondale.
Taste for Joy, sponsored by Home Instead Senior Care and PMD Realty Group, will introduce those 55 and older to the kind of meals delivered each week to program participants.
“It’s our way of showing what makes our meals different, but also to share our gratitude as we begin the 2020 holiday season,” Meals of Joy officials stated on their website, mealsofjoy.org.
Taste for Joy meals are free, but seniors or their caregivers must register at bit.ly/tasteforjoyaz to receive one. Each participant will choose a 30-minute pickup window between 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Pickup times will be limited to 35 participants, and guests are asked to arrive at the beginning of their pickup window to ensure volunteers have enough time to retrieve their meal.
Once all tickets for a time slot are reserved, it will be closed.
When registering, participants will be asked to provide their name, email address, phone number, zip code and the year they were born. They also will choose between hand-carved ham or ravioli entrees. Both meals will include a vegetable side dish and warm bread to enjoy at home.
Once registered, participants will be emailed a ticket they should save or print to present to volunteers when they arrive for pickup.
Both volunteers and guests will be required to wear masks and social distance.
Founded in 2009 by Goodyear resident Larry Cervarich to bring fresh, delicious meals to seniors who are unable to prepare food for themselves due to medical issues or financial need, Meals of Joy delivers meals to several hundred seniors in Peoria, Avondale, Buckeye, Glendale, Goodyear, Litchfield Park, Sun City, Surprise/Sun City Grand and Sun City West.
