Reader wants a closer place to vote

Posted

I was surprised to learn there is not a single place in Sun City where I can vote on Nov. 3.

When Helen Purcell was in charge, our polling place was printed next to our address on our sample ballot. When I called 602-506-1511, I was told my voting place was in Dysart.

I said, “I am a senior citizen and I’m not driving all over the countryside.”

Then I was directed to a church in Peoria, which would have been closer.

I was also told there was a church in Sun City where I could vote, but only in October, not on Nov. 3.

While Maricopa County officials seem to be making it easier for a variety of minorities to vote this year, they have forgotten that we, in Sun City, are also a minority — a senior minority — who prefer to vote at a poll close to our home.
