Gift of Adoption Fund is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides grants to help complete the adoptions of vulnerable children, giving them a permanent family and the chance to thrive.

Adoptions have not paused during our global pandemic; the work to connect the most vulnerable children with their forever families continues, and support for these children is needed now more than ever.

This November, during National Adoption Month, Gift of Adoption’s Arizona Chapter is participating in a national fundraiser hosted by Gift of Adoption chapters from all over the country.

Adoptive families and adoption supporters alike are able to honor past, present and future adoptees by participating in “Go for the Gift.”

From November 1-30, Gift of Adoption Arizona invites the community to run, walk or bike a 5K, 10K, or participate in a Fun Run (from anywhere!) and support an amazing cause.

Participating in “Go for the Gift” will have an impact right here in Arizona.

Recent grant recipient Daisha and her husband adopted their daughter in September 2019, with the help of Gift of Adoption. “Our grant from Gift of Adoption allowed us to close the gap on our final adoption expenses,”  Daisha shared. “This particular situation was already beyond the amount we had saved and fundraised at the time, but we knew this little girl was our daughter, so the grant allowed us to bring her home.”

The Gentile family also received support from Gift of Adoption earlier this year when faced with the unexpected opportunity to adopt a relative.

“Receiving the grant from Gift of Adoption helped alleviate the unforeseen financial stress we suddenly found ourselves with as this was not a planned adoption,” said Kelli Gentile.

Gift of Adoption Fund’s mission is to fill the void that separates child from family through adoption assistance grants that give children a permanent home and the chance to thrive. The nonprofit awards adoption grants with preference given to those adopting the most vulnerable children: those at risk of aging out of (or entering into) foster care, with medical conditions, or siblings—all which make adoption a little less likely for the child.

“Since inception in 1996, Gift of Adoption Fund has awarded over $10 million in grants helping over 3,500 children,” said Gift of Adoption Arizona Chapter President Katie Zimmerman. “Our Arizona Chapter was founded in 2017, and already we have seen a steady increase in the need for adoption assistance year over year. Our goal is to be able to fund this year’s need in Arizona of at least $60,000 to help children find their forever families.”

For Daisha, “The ultimate unconditional gift is the one from birth mother to adoptive parents—to hope and pray that these people will love your child as much as you do. Because it’s love and love alone that spearheads the notion of adoption, and all gifts are grounded in love.”

But adoption is also a gift that we can all give to another through support of Gift of Adoption Fund and the local Arizona chapter.

“Children deserve the right to grow up in a safe, stable, loving environment, said Kelli Gentile. “By having the ability to adopt a child, you give that child a chance at life; to be the best that they can be, without fear of where their next meal will be, what bed they will sleep in next and who will love them.”
