Woman accused of arson attempts on her Glendale business

A woman was arrested in connection with the arson of her Glendale business last month.

Claudia Ramirez, 44, faces one count of arson of an occupied structure.

According to court documents, a Molotov cocktail was thrown through the window of the business near 59th Avenue and Bethany Home on Feb. 12, but police said the glass bottle remained intact and was half full of what investigators believed was gasoline.

Police said a gasoline can was found partially melted outside the business’ door later that same night.

Two days later, employees at the business next door reported an overwhelming smell of gasoline through the shared wall.

Police reportedly found gas poured on merchandise, tables and the floor.

According to court documents, Ms. Ramirez took out a $100,000 insurance policy last October that covered merchandise at her business.

Ms. Ramirez denied any knowledge of the arson attempts, but said her business was going badly.

She was jailed in lieu of $15,000 bond with court dates April 1 and 3.
