Sutton earns Week 7 football player vote

Posted

Shadow Ridge senior receiver Zach Sutton received a bit more than half the vote to win the West Valley Preps week 7  football player of the week vote.

In the poll, a total of 647 votes were cast.

Sutton won this week with a total of 334 votes.

That was enough to hold off Dysart senior quarterback Ruben Falcon (145 votes) and Ironwood senior quarterback Will Haskell (111 votes)

Sutton scored all three of the Stallions' touchdowns in a crucial 18-13 victory over Mountain Ridge on Nov. 13 that helped clinch the school's first playoff berth since 2013.  He finished the night with 7 catches for 147 yards and three touchdowns.

Falcon led Dysart to a win in its final regular season game that allowed the Demons to reach the 3A play-in round. Falcon had 14 carries for 126 yards and two touchdowns and completed 8 of 12 passes for 141 yards and two touchdowns.

Haskell paced the Eagles' 29-20 win Nov. 13 against Apollo completing 11 of 20 passes for 276 yards for four touchdowns and an interception.

For the fifth straight year, player of the week honorees, including Sutton will win more than bragging rights.

Celebrity Tux and Tails, returns as the sponsor of the player of the Week poll. The store, at 9240 W. Northern Ave., Suite 103-A in Peoria, will provide each winner a free rental redeemable any time this school year.

The polls have been delayed, but we'll have two up this week. The Week 8 player vote is up here. Look for the playoff Week 1  vote soon.
