Midwestern announces tuition freeze, donates heath supplies

Both campuses collect items critical to COVID-19 battle

In light of recent events surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, Midwestern University, 19555 N. 59th Ave., Glendale, has decided to freeze its tuition rates for the upcoming 2020-2021 academic year in order to serve its students, the community, and the country’s public health crisis.

“I know that many students are very concerned about the cost of their education while facing the uncertainty of how COVID-19 will impact their families,” Midwestern president and chief executive officer Kathleen H. Goeppinger announced in a March 25 news release.

“Midwestern University had anticipated a tuition increase in the 2020-2021 academic year to cover the ever-increasing cost of maintaining all services on our campuses while facing increased costs from many utilities, vendors, and suppliers. I am announcing today that all current and incoming students’ tuition will not be increased in the upcoming academic year. The current tuition rate remains in effect in the upcoming 2020-2021 academic year.”

The Midwestern University Board of Trustees executive committee ratified the decision.

Meanwhile, departments from the Midwestern University-College of Graduate Studies across both campuses, in Glendale and Illinois, collected surplus PPE supplies, including N95 respirators, F1 face masks and filters, surgical masks, goggles and splash shields, disposable gowns and gloves. These items have been donated to local hospitals and healthcare workers at the university clinics to assist those on the front lines.
