Mayor Georgia Lord presented the 2019 Citizen of the Year award to Evelyn Howell and Corporate Citizen of the Year award to Globe Corp. during the Goodyear City Council’s regular meeting Jan. 27.

Mrs. Howell, who has volunteered more than 2,250 hours with the city since moving to Goodyear from Chicago about 10 years ago, was recognized for her work coordinating events including the city’s annual Make A Difference Day. In addition to organizing the event, Mrs. Howell also secured donations from various event partners, the mayor said.

Globe Corp., a family-run real estate and asset management company, has been working with the council and city staff for the past year and a half to plan and design the new Goodyear Civic Square at Estrella Falls, a project that will feature a 2-acre park, office space and City Council chambers. Globe Corp. Director/President and Co-CEO George F. Getz accepted the award on behalf of the corporation.
