Grand opening celebration Nov. 9 for Eastmark Great Park Phase III

Posted

A ribbon-cutting ceremony and numerous free activities will take place 4-8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9 to celebrate the opening of the third phase of Eastmark Great Park, 5100 S. Eastmark Parkway.

Funding for all of the phases of Eastmark Great Park is through the Eastmark Community Facilities District, a special assessment on property taxes in the Eastmark community, according to a release.

New features of the park opening that day include:

  • a shaded playground for 2 to 5 year olds and 5 to 12 year olds
  • two dog parks --- one for active dogs and one for timid dogs
  • four baseball fields with shaded dugouts
  • sand volleyball courts
  • basketball courts
  • open space turf field
  • three additional ramadas, one of which is reservable

“The City of Mesa has always been committed to providing our residents with fun and unique park concepts that ignite the imagination and encourage play,” Mayor John Giles said said in the release. “We have two award-winning parks in west Mesa and now we are seeing Eastmark Great Park develop into our next signature park for east Mesa residents.”

Activities taking place during the event include live music from Arizona Black Top, inflatables, food trucks and dog agility demonstrations. The movie "The Sandlot" will be shown at 6:30 p.m.

Phase I of Eastmark Great Park was completed in 2013. It includes the lake, splash pad, walking paths, event pavilion, shared basketball courts/parking area, parking lots and grassy open space. Phase II, completed in 2015, includes the Orange Monster playground, picnic ramada, walking paths, exercise stations, drop in sports turf area and a restroom building.

“With the fast-paced growth we are seeing in east Mesa, the Eastmark Great Park is a tremendous addition to the area that is filling the need for not only open space, but as a place where our community can gather and play,” District 6 Councilmember Kevin Thompson said in the release. “This newly completed phase really makes the Great Park one of the premiere family destinations in our city.”
