Dutch-oven cooking class offered at Superstition Mountain Museum

Award-winning chuckwagon chefs Sue and Russ Richins will present their “Intro to Dutch Oven Cooking” class 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, in the Superstition Mountain Museum’s Amphitheater, 4087 E. Apache Trail (State Route 88).

They have conducted Dutch oven classes and demos for 15 years and Mr. Richins has more than 50 years experience cooking in Dutch ovens. They competed for many years in the Three-Pot Dutch oven cook-offs winning many awards. In 2008, the two won the Arizona State Championship.

They own the Rocking RR Chuckwagon and have published a popular Dutch oven cookbook that is available for sale in the museum gift store.

Mr. and Mrs. Richins are personal chefs for small private events specializing in Dutch oven meals. They enjoy teaching others to cook in Dutch ovens and love it when folks come back to take a class a second and third time, just because they had fun. The biggest compliment is when a previous student comes up and tells them about a successful cooking experience they had after taking the class, the release states.

In this class, they will explore the history of Dutch ovens and demonstrating the art of cooking in them. At the conclusion of the class, participants will get to eat the meal they prepared for the demonstration.
